On My Honor by Marion Dane Bauer

Onmyhonor

Summary: On my Honor by Marion Dane Bauer is a Newbery Honor book that I recently picked up from the library. The book is about two best friends, Joel and Tony,  who go to the State park after promising their Dad that they will only go to the park and no where else. Joel dares Tony to go swimming in a dangerous river. Tony is not good at swimming and dies. Joel feels very guilty for being responsible for Tony’s death and for not keeping the promise that he made to his dad.

My opinion: This was a very sad, but great book to read. The way the author describes Joel and Tony swimming and Joel discovering Tony is lost and then finding him dead is very written and I could imagine myself being in his place. Joel feels bad because he was guilty for his friend. I would really feel bad too because my best friend dies and I’m the one who’s guilty. The lesson in this book is that you should always be safe and don’t go to dangerous places.

Zac Power and the Poison Island

poisonisland-ZPThis was the first book of this series for me. Zac Power is a 12 year old spy who keeps getting into one adventure after the other.

I loved this book and I would be very interested in reading more of the series. There was a cool mystery in it, lots of secret agents, and a thrilling adventure. It was one of those books that you couldn’t put down until the end!

Creepela von Cacklefur (Geronimo Stilton) and the Ghost Pirate Treasure

ghostpiratetreasureGS

I don’t know why, but currently, I just seem to be picking up the Geronimo Stilton books a lot! I think I just need to finish the entire series and only then will my brain let me move onto something else 🙂

Summary: In the Ghost Pirate Treasure, Billy wakes up and sees holes in the backyard. Then he decides to call Creepella to investigate. Then they go on a wild adventure to discover the Ghost Pirate Treasure!

My opinion: This was a very funny book like all the others. It was a very  exciting book. It was a little bit scary too!

The Skull of Truth by Bruce Coville

skulloftruth

Summary: This book is about a sixth grade boy (Charlie) who lies all the time! He is bullied by a boy named Mark and his gang and once, when trying to run away from them, he lands up in Mr. Elives’ Magic Shop. He steals a skull form then shop and it turns out that the skull has magical powers! He is then on an interesting and sometimes scary adventure!

My opinion: I learnt two new vocabulary words in the first chapter only!  They are “indignant” which means angry, “doofus” which means foolish. I am still in the middle of reading this book, so I will update this post with my review once I am done reading it. It took me some time to finish this book as I couldn’t read for one whole week when I was at camp. This was a very interesting book. My favorite character was Yorick, the skull because he was very talkative and funny and always looking for a laugh. He was cursed to always tell the truth and sometimes, the truth telling led to big consequences for Charlie. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to read a very enthralling adventure book.

Is He a Girl? Marvin Redpost # 3

isheagirl

Summary: A girl in Marvin’s class tells him that if you kiss your elbow, you’ll turn into a girl. He tries to kiss his elbow and he does it. After that, he starts feeling girlish! Is it true that kissing your elbow will turn a boy into a girl?

My opinion: This was a very interesting book in the Marvin Redpost series. Being a boy myself, I really wanted to find out if it’s true. I finished reading it in one sitting and  I knew that I would never kiss my elbow because I don’t want to turn into a girl 😉 Ha ha! The cover illustration also just grabs your attention and you really want to know what this book is all about.

Math Curse

Mathcurse

My math teacher has this book called “Math Curse” by Jon Scieszka in her class library and she reads it to us sometimes. I like this book a lot!

Summary: It’s about this girl who’s life turns into a big Math question after she hears her math teacher say that “everything in life can be considered a math problem!” Right from the moment she wakes up to everything she comes across in her day, she thinks of it in terms of math questions!

My opinion: It is a hilarious book that makes you want to grab a paper and a pencil and start working on the questions faced by this heroine. My mom loves this book too and we try to solve all the questions from this book together!. If you like Math, I would suggest that you get this book from your local library and have fun with it.

Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants

captainunderpants

Captain Underpants is a series by Dav Pilkey. This is one of the most favorite series for boys, in my opinion. I think boys are more immature so they love any stories that have poop, underpants and gross stuff in it! (I’m laughing hysterically here :D)

Main Characters in the series are:

George and Harold are two best friends, neighbors and fourth graders who think that school is very boring.

Captain Underpants is the main character in a series of comics written by George and Harold.  He is always dressed in underpants and a cape and turns bald. He is very silly and kind to all kids.

Mr.Krupp is the school principal who is very strict and mean. In the first book of the series George and Harold hypnotized him using the 3D Hypno-ring and ever since then, he changes into Captain Underpants, everytime someone snaps their fingers. To get him back to Mr. Krupp, someone has to pour water on him.

Summary:  This is the fourth epic novel in the series. The school gets a new science teacher Prof. Pippy Peepee Poopypants.  The kids make of fun of his name and he gets mad, so he makes a giant robot to shrink everyone and change their names and Captain Underpants fights with the robot to bring everyone back to normal size.
